Vic Branch: Lecture – Japanese Gardens: The Borrowed Landscapes

11 April 2019 @ 6:00 pm AEST

The Japanese have a talent for borrowing ideas and making them their own – especially in their gardens. Japanese Gardens: The Borrowed Landscapes is an introduction to the three best-known styles of gardens in Japan. In this lecture, Su Laird looks at the sources of inspiration, some of the design principles for each style of garden and how the styles borrowed from each other.

Su brings postgraduate qualifications in education, horticulture and ceramics, extensive travel to the best gardens and sources of ceramics in Europe and Japan and many years design and teaching experience to deliver great learning experiences and innovative approaches to design challenges.

Su spent many years as a selector with Open Gardens Australia, where she also served on its Victorian Committee. Su’s Garden has featured on ABC’s Gardening Australia and opened regularly as part of the OGA programme. It will continue to do so with Open Gardens Victoria.

Venue: Mueller Hall, National Herbarium, Birdwood Avenue, South Yarra.

Time: refreshments from 6 pm, lecture 6.30 pm.

Cost: AGHS Members $20, Non Members $25, Students $10 with student card.
