James Frazer Watkin first settled at Belmont 1858 when the district experienced the Fiery Creek gold rush. Situated in western Victoria, eight kilometres from Beaufort, Belmont has always been owned and occupied by members of the same family who have been disinclined to disturb the work of previous generations resulting in the historical intactness of the property.

A photographic study of Belmont can be found in the AGHS website pictorials pages.
