Delve into the Australian Garden History Society’s national oral history collection and you’ll find mention of the Ryde College of Horticulture, a place that has launched the career of many prominent horticulturists, among them people who became members of the Society. To bring their stories to light, we have created a podcast called Ticket to Ryde, in which Jennifer Stackhouse (garden writer and member of AGHS Tasmania) brings you voices from the collection to show where the study of plants, gardens and design can lead. As well as, hopefully, encouraging more people to study horticulture, this podcast offers a taste of the rich social history of Australia we have captured in our interviews. Most recordings and transcripts are available on the website. Here’s the link to the podcast and some background notes: https://www.gardenhistorysociety.org.au/publications/podcast-ticket-to-ryde/
If you would like to share a story about your time at Ryde, please contact Francesca Beddie, the podcast’s producer, at editor@gardenhistorysociety.org.au
