Ralph Suters interviewed on 30 September 2020 by Lyn Barrett
Synopsis
In this interview Lyn Barrett explores the role Ralph Suters has played in the restoration and custodianship of “Bangala”, an historic house and garden in the Southern Highlands of NSW. This property is jointly owned by Ralph and his wife Susan Hand.
Ralph’s main passion is history but modestly admits to being the garden labourer and builder of hard structures in the garden, “under instructions” from Susan. He assists in the preparations for open days and enjoys introducing visitors to the history of the property. Ralph is particularly appreciative of the seasonality of the garden and of the fauna attracted there. He does have some concerns about the future of “Bangala” as a one- acre property now situated in an area zoned as medium – density.
Anyone who has visited “Bangala” would hope that this beautiful and unique house and garden is preserved for future generations to enjoy.
