SH Branch: A jaunt by car through the Southern Highlands

11 April 2021 @ 10:00 am AEST

Join us for a leisurely drive up hill and down dale, visiting some interesting parts of the wonderful area in which we live. We will stop at points of historical interest, natural beauty, and explore a beautiful village and a lovely town. Our final destination will be a garden in the Mittagong area, that will be starting its stunning autumn display.

We will drive around 100kms during the day, but there will be plenty of stops for stretching your legs. And if you are able to find answers to all the questions we have prepared, you may even win a prize.

You will be given very detailed instructions and information on the day. Please make sure you wear comfortable shoes, there is some walking and the garden is a bit hilly so bring your stick if you require one.

You will need to provide your own lunch. Bring a picnic, or eat at one of the cafés on the way (we will provide a list of options). Afternoon tea will be served at our destination. (Please bring a folding chair to the garden if you have one.)

Please book before Tue April 6 so we can provide afternoon tea for all.

On the day, you will be given very detailed driving instructions and so will not need a GPS. We will also give you some interesting information on what you will see along the way, as well as where you will be stopping.  If you are able to find answers to all the questions we have prepared, you may even win a prize!

This drive is not a race, so you can take a leisurely trip around the route. You will drive around 100 km during the day, which is about two hours in the car, but there will be plenty of stops for stretching your legs. There will be alternative roads for those not wishing to drive on gravel roads.

We are hoping that you will become more familiar with this area of the Southern Highlands, see places you may not have had a chance to see yet, as well as learn more about our history.

You will stop at points of historical interest and natural beauty, and explore other places.

The route starts at Burradoo, goes through Moss Vale and Exeter (where you might like to have lunch), then on to a lookout over Kangaroo Valley, the Belmore Falls, Robertson (an alternative for lunch), and then to Mittagong via Kangaloon.

You will need to provide your own lunch.  Bring a picnic, or eat at one of the cafes on the way (we will provide a list of options).

Your final destination will be a large garden in the Mittagong area, that will be startling in its  stunning autumn display of maples!  Please make sure you wear comfortable shoes, there is some walking and the garden is a bit hilly.  Please bring your stick if you require one.

Afternoon tea will be served at our destination. There is limited seating so please bring a folding chair to the garden if you feel you may need to sit during afternoon tea.

Start: 10 am – 10:30 am at Burradoo Park, corner of Moss Vale Road and Osborne Road, Burradoo. Look for the AGHS sign.

Finish: 2:30 pm and walk the lovely garden.

Afternoon Tea: Served at 3:30 pm

Cost: $15.00

Booking: Use the Car Trail Booking Form.
