Tasmania Branch: Walk the Avenue

7 February @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm AEDT

The Soldiers’ Memorial Avenue forms part of the Queens Domain in Hobart. It is an avenue planted to commemorate soldiers, mainly from Hobart, who died in the Great War (WW1) 1914-1918. In all there are 536 individually named trees.

Walk the Avenue with John Wadsley from FOSMA (Friends of Soldiers Memorial Avenue Inc) to hear the fascinating story of the site & the personal history of some of the soldiers. And learn about the different species of trees planted from Andrew Robert- Tissot.

Meet at Legacy Park (use the carpark off Upper Domain Road adjacent to the Domain Athletics Centre) for a gentle 2-hour walk in a small group along a well-made track. Toilet, picnic & BBQ facilities are available here if you wish to make your own arrangements for lunch afterwards. No dogs please.

Cost: (includes $10 donation to FOSMA) – AGHS members $20, non-members welcome $25.

Bookings essential: book at Trybooking.

Enquiries: Wyn Manners – eventsaghstas@gmail.com.
