Zoom lecture: “Plant Hunters” by Dr David Marsh, UK

Please join The AGHS Victoria Branch for this most interesting presentation about the plant hunters over the ages. New plants were brought back on expeditions and travels, which became popular for use in home and botanical gardens. Many of the plants were also found to be of benefit in agriculture, science and medicine. Plant hunting became a profession in the 19th century. Nurseries sent out expeditions to find new and interesting plants from different countries that keen gardeners could add to their gardens.

About Dr David Marsh
David is an honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Buckingham and a trustee of The Gardens Trust UK, the national campaigning body for the protection and support of historic parks, gardens and designed landscapes. He chairs their education and training committee and writes a weekly blog for them which you can find at thegardenstrust.blog.

From 2011-2022 David was one of the convenors of the History of Gardens and Landscapes seminar at the Institute of Historical Research at the University of London. From 2012 to 2016 he was also a trustee of Parks & Gardens UK which is the main on-line source of information about historic parks and gardens in the country.
