In the 2026 Australia Day honours, photographer Richard Stringer was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

I wrote an article about Stringer’s exquisite black and white garden images in the January 2021 issue of Australian Garden History. See ‘Richard Stringer: capturing the landscape’. Stringer’s travels have been extensive, firstly in Queensland and subsequently throughout Australia, where he has recorded important buildings and fine gardens using large format photography. His work conveys a remarkable eye for subtle detail.

Stringer’s photographic archive has been acquired by the State Library of Queensland. Other collections are held by the National Library of Australia and the Caroline Simpson Library in Sydney.
