ACT Monaro Riverina Branch: Exploring Green Griffith

4 April @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm AEDT

AGHS has planned an early April walk through the suburb of Griffith, just as we near the end of Daylight Saving.  Griffith is one of Canberra’s oldest suburbs, rich in parks and fine trees, and with several streets following Walter Burley Griffin’s original designs for Canberra.

Our tour leaders will talk about the beginnings of the suburb and how it, and the streets in it, were given their names.

During our shady stroll of approximately an hour we will learn about Griffith’s growth from a dusty, smelly sheep paddock to the prized suburb it is today.  We will be seeing small houses from the early forties and late fifties to huge modern ones taking up the large blocks, walking under mature trees and through parks, with many plantings from the 1930s to the 1950s.

We will conclude with a visit to one of the original ex-govie houses where you will have the opportunity to purchase garden related books while we enjoy refreshments.

Book: at Trybooking. Bookings are essential.
