The story of the callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) at the site is one of survival. The tree was discovered buried deep in the rubble: its burnt trunk still alive. Nurtured at a nursery in the Bronx, the tree was returned to Ground Zero nine years later and now bursts into blossom each spring.
